Today I moved into a new room. I wish I had a house but as a student living in the city that's pretty much impossible. So my bedroom is also my living room and dining room. That gets old very quickly. I'd been living in my old room for more than four years, and while I was packing I realised that nothing really suited my style. My old room looked like a Mexican restaurant threw up on a thriftstore. Lots of useless stuff, and a lot of colors that didn't bring a lot of calmness. So for my new room I'm looking for something that looks sophisticated and mature, but far from boring. A place that is neat so I can work, but also relax. So I went online for some inspiration!

Got this very pretty piece of burgundy leather at A.Boeken in Amsterdam, and I knew I wanted to make a clutch! Still have to sew in the zipper, and I'm thinking about a chain strap. Am I right?

Just a little sneak peek into a little hobby of mine that I hope to turn into something more over time, perhaps a profitable business...
I recently discovered that I really like working with leather. It's fairly easy to work with because it is really forgiving, and it just looks great! Love the luxurious feel of it so I would never opt for faux leather, eventhough that would be infinity times cheaper. I would have to invest in a sewing machine that works with leather, so I'll leave that option open for now.

Do you see the sweater I'm wearing? I thrifted it last weekend, I paid about 2,25 euro for it. While I was paying for it the lady at the thriftstore congratulated me and said 'it's a real one, I'm so jealous!'. I didn't really understand what she meant but I just nodded and smiled enthusiasticly. After all, it's a pretty ugly Christmas sweater. BUT, after wearing it for a while I fell in love. So cosy, warm and slouchy, perfect!
I decided to give it a quick wash to get rid of that 'thriftstore' smell. WRONG DECISION. Somehow, I forgot to think, and didn't realise that this sweater is made of 100% WOOL. And that you should probably handwash wool. Sigh. When I got it out of the washing machine, it had shrunk. The damage is done. This is a Dale of Norway sweater. I Googled it and then nearly wanted to claw my own eyes out. They're pretty pricey.

I went to see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo about two weeks ago and I was really impressed. It was a long watch but it really lived up to the awesomeness of the book. And I couldn't help but be completely mesmerized by Lisbeth Salander, played by Rooney Mara. I also really liked her clothes. She is obviously a punk/goth girl, but I liked the fact that her outfits were always really subtle and not the stereotypical 'goth girl'. I found this coat while shopping yesterday, and it was marked down to a ridiculously low price. I tried it on and then without hesitation bought it. It fits really well and now I kind of feel badass like Lisbeth;)

Ugh, I can't even begin to express how much I dislike snow. I see people around me bursting with glee because there's finally snow! Not me. It manages to mess up all my plans, and pretty much has me cooped up in the house all day. I did run out for two minutes to take these outfit pictures. It was still snowing when we took these, so the result isn't as great as I'd like it to be.

What a clever title. Anyways, I warn you. This post is not about anything that is so right now in fashion. But trust me, I would wear these even ten years from now. That is, if I would only be so lucky to own them.

I'm talking about the Ann Demeulemeester Fall '08 'triple lace-up boots'.
Ever since I first layed eyes on them I've been obsessed. I've never seen a boot that seemed so right for me. I've never been a 'shoe girl' that obsesses over the latest Acne boots or those new Louboutins, simply because I am TALL. And clumsy, and awkward. So me walking in heels is not a pretty sight. However, I love looking at all types of heels, and people in heels. Just not me. I have a very particular taste in shoes. I like shoes or boots that have a certain toughness to them, a unique detail that makes it stand out like a gorgeous high heel would. And of course comfort is somewhat of a factor (gosh I sound like my dad). The triple lace-up boots have ALL of that!

A certain goth-ness but not too much. The intricate looking laces. That gorgeous color. I could probably keep going for a while. But of course, these babies are nowhere to be found. Fashion moves on, so online stores don't carry them anymore. It's going to be a matter of chance if I will ever find these or not.

Yesterday I went to see the Custo Barcelona show at Amsterdam Fashion Week. I'd been wanting to visit Fashion Week, but well, you kind of need an invitation, so that was out of the question. Through a friend who knew a friend, I was able to get tickets and check out the Custo Barcelona show.

So, by the look of these pictures, I wasn't exactly sitting front row, haha! But I liked watching the show and experiencing this for the first time. The two looks above were my favourite, the black dress was sexy and had a nice goth-chic feel to it, something I'd definitely wear. And I liked the print on the hoodie. Also really liked the bright orange lipstick. Overall, this collection was a bit on the safe side. I thought everything was very wearable and commercial. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing! I hope to visit AFW again in the future!

I wanted to take some decent outfit photos outside today, but rain and grey skies prohibited me from doing so. Bummer. On to the outfit! This seems to have become a uniform of sorts for me; a turtleneck and black skinny jeans. Obviously I got bored and decided that I needed a belt. A tan belt with a silver buckle. Well guess what? They didn't sell it anywhere. There were tan belts with gold buckles, tan belts with glitter and studs, but not exactly what I was looking for. So of course I did what I always do in desperate times. Look in the mens department! Haha! Sometimes I wish men and womens clothing wouldn't be so separated. But anyway, I'm pretty happy with this belt that I got at V&D (Dutch department store).

I also wore my Nelly 'hard rock boots', that are owned by pretty much every fashion blogger out there. Oh well, I like them! Below are my running shoes that I need to break out way more.

Sale shopping. Sometimes awesome, but usually disappointing. I've read a lot of great tips on several blogs on how to go sale shopping, and I put a few of them to the test. One of my first questions when going shopping is, 'what do I need?'. Well, I needed a hat or beanie, so I got this furry one at H&M for 0,80 cents! That's ridiculous right? Also, I needed a vest, So I got this poncho vest for 5,40 euro! And lastly, I needed a messenger bag, not the latest it-bag I know, but it is great for carrying around my laptop, papers, books, and all those other non-fashionable items. It helps that I LOVE the print and it doesn't make me look like a complete dork. It was on sale for 13,25 euro. So in the end I didn't even spend a lot of money, and got the stuff that I needed without getting sidetracked.

I love reading these kind of posts on other blogs, so why not do one myself! I don't wear a lot of make up as you can see, but I do have a few essentials that I can not do without.

Kiko ultra tech waterproof mascara, I got this at the KIKO store while in Germany a few months ago. It does exactly what I need a mascara to do, lengthen and thicken my lashes, and stay on. Sadly there is no KIKO in the Netherlands, so I'll have to find another great mascara when it runs out. Rosebud Salve, I love this lipbalm that is also a great moisturizer for hands and cuticles. Moroccan Oil argan oil treatment, my hair has changed drastically since using this. No more frizz and dryness. It is a bit pricey though, so I try to use a small amount at a time. Mac sheertone blush 'peaches', As you can see I need to replace this one very soon. A small amount really brightens up my face.

What are some of your favourites?

So, I guess it's 2012 now. Which also means I'll be turning 23 next week, which scares the shit out of me. 2011 meant a lot of new things for me, going to art school and developing skills and interests that were buried pretty deep. I didn't really feel like doing a '2011 outfit recap' because well, there haven't been that much! And truthfully I don't know if it bothers me at all. I do know, that for 2012 I want to take this blog to a higher level. My first purchase from clothing webshop Romwe. More specifically, the 'batwing puffy sleeve jumper' (their descriptions are ridiculous). I was pretty pleased about how quick it got here. I received an email notifying me about my order being dispatched, yesterday. Today, it was waiting for me at home. But imagine my disappointment while trying it on, realizing that it is either a childrens sweater, or Romwe just makes clothes for really small people with very short arms.
I was expecting a cosy jumper for winter, one that would at least be long enough in the arms. Bummer.

Versace X H&M

To be honest, I don't have a lot to say about the Versace for H&M collection. In my opinion, the pieces look incredibly tacky (NOT in a good way) and unflattering. As someone who lives in the Netherlands, and knows what the 'style' is about here; dress down or stand out and standing out is bad! I know that this is not something a lot of people would wear. I think a lot of people are turned on by the fact that they now own something that says 'Versace' on the label and that is all.

However,

The black and white printed sweater from the mens department looks pretty sweet!

I'm going to wait for a bit until the leftovers inevitably end up in the sale, and snatch one up for myself!

While enjoying a very rare 'no-homework' Saturday, I was browsing blogs as usual when I spotted the lovely Rumi of Fashiontoast (see post here)

I immediately went online to see if it was for sale anywhere, but I quickly realized it was a bit out of my league (and budget). So I went to the nearest thrift store to see if I could find a similar blazer. And I found one. It isn't near as fancy as Rumi's, but it will do. I'm thinking of having it tailored though, but who knows maybe I'll wear it boyfriend style!

I got this bracelet and necklace at a small bijoux shop in Amsterdam. I think the little compartment in the bracelet is so funny because I can't imagine what I would have to put in it besides pills.

The necklace is so delightfully tacky and 90's that I just needed it. I find that it goes pretty well with turtlenecks!

Currently very busy with school assignments. Somehow there's a lot of clarity for me when I have a lot of things to do. I just turn off all the noise from outside and focus in silence by myself. God, that sounds like a very stupid poem.

This is one of the many assignments. In short, the assignment was to create your own interpretation of an art piece seen during the excursion (that I posted about earlier) to Germany. I chose 'Dark Pool' by Janet Cardiff and George Bures Miller (if you are interested, checkout the link below). With my own version, I wanted to create a small scaled version of 'Dark Pool' containing my own personal belongings and memories.

Another random post I guess. I've been enjoying a small break from school. I've been swamped with homework, so there wasn't a lot of relaxing. But still it was nice.

In this picture I'm wearing one of my thrifted sweaters. This one has a very nice texture to it. I'm going to post a clearer picture of it soon. The sweater goes very nicely with my burgundy/bordeaux trousers from H&M, which are the first pair of trousers/pants from H&M that are actually long enough for me.

It seemed kind of silly to me to go to H&M or Zara or a random store and purchase a knitted sweater for 30-50 euros. It's not that I can't afford them (I just prefer paying my rent), but I just don't think the quality of the garment compares to the amount money they're asking for it. Instead, I went to the Terre des Hommes store (thrift) and got this lovely blue/greyish sweater, and another, interesting looking structured sweater for 8 euros total(that's 2 sweaters!). I could not be happier and have gotten many compliments on both sweaters already. Thrifting pays off!

This is a no brainer manicure. A colored french tip that doesn't need a very steady hand. Just apply nailpolish to the upper part of your nail like you would normally do with a French manicure. I added a matte topcoat as well.

The size issue

If you like to thoughtlessly look at blogs full of pictures of clothes and shoes that (a lot of) you (including myself) will never be able to afford, this post is not for you. However, if you're someone who likes to engage in thought and discussion etc, read on please.

Size

While growing up 'size' was always something I was confronted with. I was always a smaller size than my peers, thinner. I grew up in a very small Dutch town, where people were 'healthy', (this meant chubby) with blue eyes and blonde hair. I stood out tremendously because of; a) my heritage, Dutch father, Tanzanian mother. And b) I was extremely thin. And when I say extremely, I mean it. My legs and arms looked like they could snap at any time, and even my mother would joke around about me being thin because she herself was thin growing up. I got teased about my size SO MUCH. And somehow people thought it was cool to criticize someone who was thin. But commenting on an overweight person's appearance was just not tolerated, and still isn't. I struggled with insecurities throughout my teenage years, often wearing sweatpants under jeans to try and fill them out properly. My mother even thought I had an eating disorder.

The thing is; nothing was wrong with me. My parents were both very thin when they were younger. I am also very tall so I am just naturally thin. This is something a lot of people think is a myth, and somehow they feel that it is justified to accuse someone who is 'naturally thin' of having an eating disorder.

The funny thing is, in the fashion world, my skinny self, would be considered 'plus size' or 'curvy'. Try to let that sink in...because I can't. I used to literally PRAY for curves, because I was flat as a board. I still don't have hips!

For example: Lara Stone, a gorgeous Dutch model, is considered a 'heavier' or 'curvy' model. Are you serious? I looked up her measurements, and get this; she is smaller than me in waist size, bust size, and hip size. This is so shocking to me because if I were to lose weight it would not be a pretty picture, I would be weak and frail, and bones would be sticking out. Then how is this okay?

plus size?

I've been noticing this strange size-ism (hehe) in clothing stores as well. H&M for example. I used to fit into a size EUR34 with no problem, but now these clothes look like they were made for a 12 year old. I have a very hard time gaining weight so I do not think that it is me going up a few sizes. I've also gone from a EUR34 pants size, to a EUR36, and now to a EUR38! I haven't gained so much as an inch in size, and I know sometimes sizes are kind of different depending on the material etc etc, but it seems as if H&M have dropped their sizes. I wonder if anyone else has noticed this. What is going on?

Fat?

Let me clarify this, I am not a fan of those 'big is beautiful let's put a lot of fat chicks in skimpy outfits in this magazine so people won't hate us anymore' editorials. I think that they're insincere and don't quite get the point. But I think this is getting out of hand and a tad unhealthy.

leather jacket pt.2 : AFTER

So, I'm going to confess; I actually didn't do a lot of the alterations of this jacket myself. I took it to a tailor of course! I had the waist taken in a bit, but the part that needed the most work were the sleeves, they were huge! I actually took it back after the first time, because I wasn't quite happy with the results. The tailor was also a bit slow and not very good at keeping his appointments, so this whole process took about a month in total.

After that I felt like there was still something that made this jacket look too 'motorcycle gang woman'-ish and I decided to cut off the belt (which I never used anyway) and the padding on the back (like I said, this is a real motorcycle jacket so there was protective padding throughout the whole jacket that needed to be removed). This jacket looked very different when I first laid eyes on it, but I saw the potential and I took the risk of having it altered (also cost me about three times more than the price of the jacket itself). I'm really happy that I cut off the belt and the extra padding because now the jacket is shorter and looks a bit more sleek. I also like the curve on the back now, which I have been seeing on designer leather jackets as well. The only difference is, this one cost me a fraction of what some rich lady is going to pay for her leather jacket.

Today was my first day of school. Well, the first day of the introduction and I am TIRED (out of bed at 6.30 A.M and spent the rest of the day running around visiting museums). And I have two more introduction days left to go. After that my first year begins and I can't imagine myself having a second of free time:(

I have been planning a post about something I blogged about quite a while ago; my thrifted motorcycle jacket. For now I leave you with the 'before' picture. That will be followed soon with an 'after' post.

Thrifted sunglasses, didn't really want to take a picture of me wearing them yet because I can't decide whether or not I look like Whoopi Goldberg while wearing them.

I've been staring at my nails constantly. I don't really like glitter on any of my clothes, bags, or other things. But on my nails? Yes please! Not a modest coat of cutesy glitters, I want it overdone! So I ended up with these. I used two kinds of glitter nailpolishes by Essence. A more confetti like coat, and a very dense glitter coat on top of a darkblue polish by Koh.

simple biker shorts/90's bell sleeve diy

This is probably the easiest diy I have ever done, but I still had fun. I was making biker/cycling shorts to go under dresses or t-shirts, when I thought 'why not use the cutoff leg parts as sleeves?' I really like bell sleeves and this is an easy way to make them.
Pretty straightforward, (excuse the bad lighting, my photography skills are not all there yet;) take an old legging that you don't need anymore (I used an extra long legging from Primark),cut off the leg parts at the desired length for your shorts, then take your 'sleeve' and slide around your arms, with the wider part at your wrists.

Easy! You can use these to 'warm' up a dress when it gets colder. And you have some biker shorts now too!

That title sounds a bit dark. But nevermind that. It's exactly what I've been doing with this blog. A cleanse, or maybe just organizing. It's also what I do in my personal life. Every once in a while when things start to pile up so high (paperwork, clothes, shoes, clutter) that I lose inspiration, a cleanse or reorganization is needed. My writing has from the very beginning been just like the way I am in my personal life. Loud, funny, sarcastic, cynical. But I don't feel like I want to do this with the blog anymore, or at least tone it down a bit. While this blog is very close to me, I just feel like I need to take a little step back, and maybe remove some of the more personal bits.

So I removed a lot of posts that looking back on, I just can't relate to anymore. I edited some posts, to make them less loud and 'funny' and just take it back to the basics. I am getting more mature every day, no matter how hard I try to fight this sometimes. I think I will always remain playful and young at heart, so I'm not worried about losing this. I am serious about this blog so this means it has to mature just as well. I plan on working with my boyfriend, who is a freelance web designer to give the blog a new, cleaner look. So I hope you will all stay tuned for that!

I'm finishing off the last assignments for school so I can graduate. Had my exam performance a few days ago and it was amazing. Now I'm kind of in a rut because I was so caught up with the organisation of the performance and now it's all over. Weird. I'm going to post pictures and hopefully a video of the gig soon.

In the midst of all the planning and working on my final exam, I somehow found the time to do a really cool photoshoot with a friend of mine, who is studying photography.
I was really surprised and flattered when she asked me to do it. And here are a few of my favourite pictures:

I have the ability to cram myself into little spaces. I blame my long flexible legs for this (I can also put them behind my neck if I try hard enough). My boyfriend finds this pretty hilarious. He once put me in a duffle bag and carried me. It was (terrifying) great.

I bought this simple white shirt at H&M today. It's definitely gonna be one of my summer staples. Paired with dressy shorts for a simple masculine look. I think I enjoy dressing manly ten times more than dressing girly.

Also, this is the first picture of me wearing my vintage 'vegan' docs. I love them so much! It was absolute HELL to break these in. And even though they're comfy now, they still give me shit after wearing them for a few hours.

Today I was thinking about what kind of post I wanted to do. And I decided why not share some more about myself and not talk about clothes for a while?

Lately I've been reading a lot of, I guess you could call it 'health food blogs'. I don't know if these bloggers themselves would call it that, but to a newbie like me they definitely are. Most of these blogs are centered around being vegan, and what a 'vegan' person eats and just their lifestyles. Very interesting. These blogs have definitely made me think about the things and the way that I eat, and make me want to drastically change a few things!

excuse the hilariously cheesy pictures, I needed some filler imagery to make it less boring for you guys, haha!

Here are some of the blogs that I'm into right now:

Oh She Glows - This lady makes the greatest dishes and it's all vegan! She also bakes and sells healthy and delicious (I think so!) treats. Her blog is so inspiring!

The Fruit Pursuit- A fellow Dutchie who is really smart and knows a lot about food! She shares lots of pictures of her daily eats, and has a very personal writing style.

Sweetness of Life- This girl's got a very positive vibe going on and it really rubbed off on me! Also lots of yummy, healthy food pictures!

Well those are a few that I read almost every day. But I'm sure that just like fashion blogs, there are a lot more food/healthy living blogs out there! So I'd love to hear some from you guys!

Here are a few changes that I'm going to make food-wise:

-Start the day with a glass of (lukewarm)lemon water (look it up)

-Experiment with green smoothies (fruits, greens)

-DRASTICALLY cut down my meat and dairy intake. I've already been noticing some great changes. I get so FULL and bloaty when I eat meat and/or dairy (I'm not even going to start about the meat industry and the gross treatment of the animals, I think everyone knows this and happily ignores it)

-Substitute meat with MORE vegetables. I'm a bit of a picky eater but I'll just have to grow up really quick;)

-Eat more nuts! They are so yummy but somehow it's easier for people to grab a bag of chips? I really don't want this anymore.

-Lay off the sugar! This is actually not that big of a deal to me since I don't really have a sweet tooth..But sugar/sweetener is in a lot of things so I'm going to watch out for it!

-Stop drinking artificially sweetened drinks. I'm going to try and completely cut out any type of soda. Replace with tea (hold the sugar) and healthy smoothies!

Looks gross? Tastes yummy!

Most of all, I'm going to THINK more about what I eat and where it comes from. I feel that we're being tricked into believing that certain foods are GOOD, and HEALTHY.
But they actually harm us in the end. Now that I'm an adult and have been living by myself for a while, I've gotten smarter and I now have the power to change things!
The way you eat will eventually show through your skin, and the way you feel. I really hope to see and feel some changes soon, and I know it's going to take time. But I'm ready for it!

Wearing my new H&M leopard print shoes, I bought these because I kind of messed up my heels (OUCH!) trying to break in my new dr Martens (they're almost comfortable now, YES!). So a pair of comfortable, cheap shoes were much needed. I'm usually not that into leopard printed things, but these ROCK! And I especially love them with these torn up Levi's. For those of you who read my earlier post, about the art school that I was doing some work for,I GOT ACCEPTED! I'm so happy and excited to go to this school and learn all kinds of new stuff. I'm going to be studying Fashion at the Willem de Kooning Academie (first I have to finish my current school) so I have my work cut out for me!

I'm so relieved and I can't believe that my work was good enough, but I guess it was!

I am a huge fan of Björk. I was way too young (and obsessed with the Spice Girls) to appreciate her music throughout the 90's. Her 'Human Behaviour and 'All is Full of Love' videos freaked the hell out of me at the time. So I'm pretty much a latecomer. Years later, being the huge fan that I've become, I just had to see this movie. Made by Matthew Barney, who is an artist and also Björks lover, it is one strange piece of film. I had seen Matthew's Cremaster videos on Youtube, and was completely weirded out, yet intrigued.

This movie was a bit hard to comprehend, but I could not stop watching. Also, Björk composed all of the music/soundscapes in the movie.

I pretty much sat in the house all day, had some drawing/painting to do for an assignment that will determine if I get accepted into an art school in Rotterdam. I'm so excited and scared but also really looking forward to it! I hope to show you guys some of my 'work' pretty soon.

Today I went out to enjoy the sun and just wander around the city a bit. I met up with my friend to just hang out a bit in the city and it was really nice and relaxing.

As I've said many times before, I love to do my nails. But not sweet colours like pink or just a glossy topcoat. But full on green, blue, black, half-moon manicure etc.

For this particular look I wanted to recreate a 'nebula' nail style that I've seen many versions of. But I think I got a bit too carried away and ended up with what I like to call nail barf.I like it. I used a lot of colours, and I like that you can see different colours depending from which angle you look at them.

I've been pondering a lot about blogging/having a blog, and the things one does, and simply doesn't do in this big ol' blogosphere. There have been a few discussions/talks about things like 'fashion blogger ethics' or integrity and I found them all to be very interesting. Especially since I never thought I'd ever be confronted with things like that, because my blog is so tiny. But I have come across a few of the things mentioned (commenting, link spamming, advertising, receiving gifts) on a small scale. Sometimes I just have no clue what so ever on what to do with it, and if I even want to continue blogging because of it.

When I first started blogging I realized pretty quickly that I needed to 'socialize' to get myself out there and be known. So I started leaving my link behind in the comment section of a lot of blogs.
I would sometimes drop a hundred or more comments a day and I would be so tired afterward, and found myself thinking "is this really what blogging is all about?" Of course, there are still blogs that I frequent, and when I leave a comment it is sincere, and not meant to just put my blog 'out there'. But I do admit that I have commented in the past, and it would not be constructive or interesting or offering some kind of feedback at all. Now I feel like such a creep for it. The funny thing is that a lot of comments I receive are just like that.

For example; a while ago I received a comment from a guy that said something along the lines of 'what a great blog, so warm. visit me!' I really didn't think anything of it until I saw the exact same comment on a different blog. I just thought to myself "REALLY?".

I was really a bit offended to tell you the truth. Not just for myself, but for other bloggers out there too. I think that there is in fact a kind of 'overkill' on fashion blogs, sadly. But there are a lot of blogs that are unique and have their very own aesthetic and style, that really stand out and have their own thing going on. So I think it's almost rude to just drop a comment that you've dropped on 50 other blogs, and not even look at the rest of the blog. Cause that's what happens. And I think a lot of bloggers are aware of this.

Also, I've gotten a lot of offers from shady webstores and just generally shady people, to write a post on their website or to to pick out any item of jewelery/clothing/whatever to simply put it, advertise for them. I turned down each and every one of them. Usually because the things offered are just not my taste or do not fit the aesthetic of my blog. Honestly I think a lot of people get into blogging to receive stuff. I'm just wondering if anyone else (I'm guessing yes) has received similar offers. How did you handle it?

I want to make it very clear that I'm not trying to come off as arrogant or uppity or whatever, it's just that I've been thinking about this a lot. Maybe I'm the one who is wrong. Maybe there are just certain 'rules' that exist in fashion blogging. If so, please enlighten me. Also feel very free to comment if you disagree;)

Which brings me to my last point (you thought it was over huh?)
You may have noticed the text 'by no means a fashion blog' under my header. I thought it would be a nice 'slogan' or whatever to add to my header. But then I realized that it may be offensive, or arrogant to some. Or even hard to comprehend. Or just not interesting to anyone at all. Let me first say that I do not mean to offend anyone with this. It is not meant to bash anyone that has a fashion blog. It just struck me that A LOT of people have 'fashion blogs'. But to me it just seems like a lot of copying and pasting of runway pictures. Et voila! You've got yourself a very Serious 'Fashion Blog'.
And yes, I post things that are fashion related,so feel free to call me a hypocrite.
I really just want to learn more about fashion, and acquire a certain quality in my posts, before I start calling myself a Fashion Blogger.

In a couple of days (hopefully) me and my boyfriend are gonna get a new camera. Like a proper picture taking camera.

Also, on Friday I went out thrifting and I found an excellent leather jacket! It was just the kind I was looking for! And for only 17,50 euro, it was a total bargain!
It still is a bit chunky on me, but that's because it's a proper leather jacket, no H&M casual 'leather' jacket. So I might have it tailored when I have the money. I've been trying to pair it with light, girly items of clothing, so that I don't look like some wannabe punk.
If anyone has some cool styling tips I'd love to hear them.

A few years ago I went into this little secondhand camera shop, and bought the coolest little analog camera. I was getting so sick of my digital camera. Somehow the pictures I took with it lacked personality or character. So when I got my analog camera (a Konica C35) for about 10 euros, I enthusiastically started taking pictures with it and I really like how some of them turned out. It's a shame because I rarely use it. It's just such a hassle to get them onto your computer, and a lot of shops don't sell the film that goes in it. Still, I might give it a try.

A while ago I discovered this great new artist from L.A.
I was standing in the local record store and when I heard his songs coming through the speakers, I immediately had to ask the girl that worked there who it was.
It was Baths. He is only 21 years old and is with the experimental hiphop label Anticon.
I can definately hear some hiphop influences, but his music is best described as 'dreamy, glitchy' with pop influences. I really love his album called ' Cerulean' and I've been pretty much listening to it non-stop since I first discovered it.
I think it's a must-listen for anyone that is interested in new, interesting music!

Also, this video is so amazing. Hauntingly beautiful, and it blends with the music so incredibly well! You really need to see this.

Little outfit post and a new thrift find.

Today I wore a pretty basic outfit, some jeans, seethrough top with a striped top underneath, and a great vest that I thrifted a while back. I love it because it has bell sleeves, and those are pretty much my favourite things in the world.

I found this amazing belt at the thrift store. It's really detailed, and for 2,50 euro I could not say no to this wonderfully tacky belt. I usually don't wear belts that go around your waist because it makes me seem even taller, and I really don't have that much of a waist to begin with.

I want to tell you about a wonderful little book that I bought about a week ago. It was in honour of Frida Kahlo's birthday (born 6th of July 1907) that "de Volkskrant" came out with this book. de Volkskrant is a Dutch newspaper.

When I saw it I immediately grabbed it. The book is full of great works from Frida, along with stories/information about her life, and little backstories about the paintings themselves.

I have always been fascinated by Frida Kahlo, especially since I saw the movie "Frida", which is one of my favourite movies ever. I have not only been fascinated by her wonderful appearance, but of course by her amazing work, and her life, that has been full of interesting ups and downs.

I also took some photos of some of the wonderful paintings in the book. Mind you, my photos don't do these works any justice.

Gosh I hate doing smalltalk about the weather. But we had some goood weather today.
The only thing that kind of sucks about the sun is that it gets in my eye, and even with sunglasses on it causes me to make a bitchface.

Here you can see the fake Miu Miu collar I did.

I diy'd the Miu Miu cat collar today, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

So, first of all I got the shirt, which was 5 euros at the thriftstore. I cut off the collar and then started my drawings. The collar looks a bit dirty in the picture, but it's still in pretty good shape for something that has been thrifted.

Then I made a cutout of the kitty, so that I could properly trace it onto the collar.
Also, I used a textile marker to draw in the kitty, but you could also use a crayon pencil (that is what White Lightning used for hers). Also, it is very important that you have a very steady hand, I tend to shake around a lot, causing me to freak out when something barely goes right.

Et voila!

I think most of all you should just have fun with this and do it your way!

The last couple of days I've really been letting out my inner hermit. Due to the 'extreme' snow here in the Netherlands, and the public transportation being out, I was forced to stay in. Or freeze outside in the snow. So I decided to check out a few movies.

The first movie I watched was 'American Splendor' and I really loved it, I'm still loving it. Sometimes while watching a movie that I really like, I often think "why haven't I seen this before?". Exactly what my thoughts were while watching this movie.

The movies is sort of a documentary/movie that revolves around Harvey Pekar, the author of the 'American Splendor' comic book series. I found this to be a really interesting movie, and I thought Paul Giamatti did a really good job portraying Harvey Pekar. His voice did not sound exactly the same, but who cares.

The next movie was 'Welcome to the Dollhouse', another gem in my opinion.
I really loved the way she was dressed actually, I guess they were trying to make her look dorky. So, the movie surrounds a 7th grader named Dawn Wiener, who gets picked on by basically everyone in her life. Then she develops a crush on a guy who plays in her older brothers band. And with that she starts developing all kinds of feelings. All and all she's just a troubled kid trying to cope with growing up, and the awkwardness that it brings. There was one little scene that I loved especially, kind of sick but it made me laugh out loud and watch over and over again;

I guess it speaks for itself that I recommend this movie to anyone who likes awkward 90's highschool flicks.

I also watched 'Art School Confidential' because I was very curious about it. Since it was done by Daniel Clowes, who also did 'Ghost World' which is not my favourite, but definitely a movie that I can watch over and over again. I kind of liked this movie, but found the main character to have a somewhat distracting look and overall I wasn't really entertained by it. It had its funny moments though. And John Malkovich is always good.
